Standard of Review

I had a little light bulb moment the other day when I was finishing my Tata Harper Regenerating Cleanser. I thought to myself, I am really going to miss this little green bottle when it’s gone. I love the frosted glass container, it has a pump that works perfectly and its green, which stands out from the rest of my stash. It is obvious I wanted to repurpose the bottle, which I have, because it is too precious to chuck away. That got me thinking about packaging and consumer experience, but branding for sure. Just like this green bottle stands out from the sea of mostly white/black skincare packaging, I have hopes for this blog to stand out from the rest. And what better way to do it than to explain to you, my dear reader, what my standard of review is based upon when I decide to feature a product.

Besides honesty and objectivity, there are 6 pillars on which all my reviews stand on:

I. COMPANY PHILOSOPHY

  • Organic vs. Natural vs. Non-toxic?
  • Cosmeceutical?
  • Ingredient focus?
  • Physician/Esthetician backed?

II. INGREDIENTS

  • I will list ingredients whenever possible
  • Is ingredient information easily accessible?
  • What are the sources of the ingredients?
  • Is there a purpose to the inclusion of those ingredients?
  • Any fragrance/ essential oils/potential irritants?

III. CLAIMS

  • Exaggerated?
  • Realistic?
  • Detailed?
  • For what skin type

IV. PACKAGING

  • Does it keep the formula effective and stable?
  • Presentation
  • Quality vs. price
  • Shelf life of product

V. PRICE & AVAILABILITY

  • List price
  • List of websites or stores to purchase

VI. ANYTHING EXCEPTIONAL

I hope this is a helpful list that will encourage you to think before purchasing skincare. I believe everyone has different opinions of what is important or they are looking for, which is why skincare can be so complex and interesting. If you have any suggestions on additional areas I should focus my review on, please let me know!
